Ia Orana! Come learn the basic movements of Tahitian dance and get to know a bit of Tahitian culture as you shake your hips. In this class, you will be taught proper hip movement and arm placement as well as a basic ʻōteʻa or ‘aparima (fast or slow dance). A pāreu or sarong is recommended.

What is ‘Ori Tahiti?

‘Ori Tahiti is most recognized by fast-shaking hips and powerful movements to the beat of drums also known as ʻōteʻa. Extravagant headdresses or flower crowns and woven hip bands are often worn while performing to showcase the beauty of Tahitian culture and accentuate hip movement.
